Comet Ridge Brings CBM Wells Onshore Queensland into Production
Comet Ridge disclosed Thursday that it has successfully completed four coal bed methane (CBM) pilot wells for production at the onshore Mahalo block in ATP 337P, north of Rolleston in the Bowen Basin, central Queensland.
"These completion operations included the installation of tubing, a downhole pump and pressure monitoring equipment in each of the wells. The service rig has now been stacked in the area to undertake further completion operations on other wells in the Mahalo block early in the New Year," the company said in a statement.
Comet Ridge added that the completion of its four-well drilling campaign is a key step in constructing the Mahalo pilot scheme, aiding the company in its efforts to achieve reserves certification of the block by next year.
Comet Ridge had earlier in July successfully concluded drilling works at the wells. It confirmed in a statement on Aug.1 that the four wells intersected good continuity, thickness and permeability of the main reservoir section.
The company is meanwhile continuing on its drilling efforts, with an eight-well drilling program started on the block as part of its ongoing efforts to further define the extent and quality of coal in the Mahalo block.
Comet Ridge is also in the midst of constructing field facilities and tanks needed at the Mahalo pilot, it disclosed at an annual general meeting address in November. The company is targeting for start-up of the facilities next year.
Comet Ridge holds a 35 percent stake in the permit, while Santos and APLNG each hold a 30 percent stake. Stanwell Corporation, which retains an option to increase its share in the project, holds the remaining five percent stake.
