Oilgen Completes Reservoir Modeling Contract for TAQA

Scottish reservoir engineering firm Oilgen announced Thursday that it has successfully completed a reservoir-modeling project for TAQA Energy in the Netherlands.

The Rijn oil field, reopened in 2010 by TAQA after 10 years of shutdown, is based some 25 miles off the coast of the Netherlands. The field had previously been abandoned by Amoco after 15 years of production.

Oilgen completed a contract to deliver 3D reservoir models to help the client understand the reservoir mechanisms required to rejuvenate the field and optimize it for further development. The firm's models re-evaluated reservoir properties to reveal that oil quantities originally in place were probably between 15 and 40 million barrels greater than thought in the 1980s, when the field first began producing.

Oilgen said that its analysis produced recommended routes for drilling and water injection that will help TAQA produce an additional five percent of oil from the field, adding that TAQA is set to drill a new well in 2013.

Oilgen Managing Director Laurent Schirrer commented in a statement:

"This is a very high profile project to be involved in and we were delighted to be the first company to successfully fully explain the history of the field. It was last studied more than 10 years ago but we carried out our own research of the data to create a more accurate model so the client can reach maximum field potential within budget."
