VIENNA - Kuwait's acting oil minister, Hani Hussain, will not attend the meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries in Vienna Wednesday, after he was informed that he is likely to be reappointed as the country's oil minister in the new cabinet, two people familiar with the matter said Monday.

"The minister was told he is one of the few ministers that are likely to stay in the new cabinet, so he won't attend the meeting in case he needs to swear in," one person familiar with the matter told Dow Jones Newswires. "A final decision is expected within the next couple of days," the person said.

Kuwait's top OPEC official, Siham Abdulrazzak Razzouqi, will head the country's delegation at the organization's meeting Wednesday, another person familiar with the matter said.

Kuwait's ruler, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, earlier this month accepted the resignation of the cabinet in a routine process after a parliamentary election.

Mr. Hussain, a former chief executive of state oil company Kuwait Petroleum Corp, was appointed by the Emir in February as part of a wider cabinet reshuffle in the Gulf state.

If Mr. Hussain is reappointed this week, he will also assume the rotating presidency of OPEC after the meeting on Wednesday.
