Subsea vehicle specialist ROVOP was a winner at the Scottish Green Energy Awards, the company reported Friday. Aberdeen-based ROVOP won the Business Growth category at the awards, which were held in Edinburgh Thursday.
ROVOP's achievement has come just 18 months after it was founded, with the company claiming to have carved itself a niche by being 100-percent focused on specialist, rapid-response remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) services to the subsea oil and gas sector as well as the offshore wind industry
The company started with two employees but now has 30 staff. It has invested around $4.8 million in ROVs and will make a further investment of some $24 million in order to buy five hydraulic ROVs over the next 18 months, so creating another 60 jobs.
"This is tremendous industry recognition of ROVOP's significant growth and a huge testament to the team’s hard work and commitment to ensuring the company’s success," ROVOP Managing Director Steven Gray commented in a company statement.
ROVOP has taken ROV knowhow gained in the North Sea oil and gas sector, and applied it to the offshore wind market. In October, the firm announced it signed more than $10 million of contracts for work at Belgian, Danish, German and UK wind farms.
