Talisman Norwegian Well Comes Up Dry

change text size

Talisman Energy's wildcat well 16/10-5 on production license 568 in the Norwegian North Sea has come up dry, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

The well was drilled by Talisman approximately 10 miles southeast of Talisman's Varg field in the central North Sea. The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Ula formation).

Despite encountering a 310-foot reservoir in the Ula formation with "very good" reservoir quality, after drilling to a vertical depth of 9,800 feet, the well was deemed to be dry and terminated in the Bryne formation in the Middle Jurassic zone. It has now been permanently plugged and abandoned.

The 16/10-5 well was drilled by the Maersk Giant (350' ILC) drilling facility, which is now headed for production license 147 in the southern North Sea to drill exploration well 3/7-8 S for DONG E&P Norge.
