Afren Commences Production at Okoro East

change text size

Afren has commenced production from the Okoro field extension, located about 1 mile east of the Okoro main field offshore southeast Nigeria. The Okoro-14 development well, drilled from the existing Okoro wellhead platform, came online at a stabilized rate of 5,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) of 38 degree API oil. Including the extension, the field's total output from the Okoro area increased to about 21,500 bopd.

The Okoro-14 well targeted Tertiary-aged reservoir sands within a new play including a deeper buried horst block structure, reported the operator. Afren completed the well and connected it to the existing Okoro FPSO, situated in license OML 112 in a water depth of 46 feet (14 meters). Production commenced at the Okoro field in June 2008.

Osman Shahenshah, Chief Executive of Afren, stated in a press release, "I am delighted that we have commenced early production at the Okoro Field Extension, just nine months after the initial discovery. This is clear evidence that we are creating tangible value and volume growth from our ongoing exploration drilling campaign, and further testament to the Afren team's fast track development capabilities."

Afren will now relocate the GSF Adriatic IX (350' ILC) to the Ebok field to drill a development well on the Ebok North Fault block discovery that was reported in May 2012.
