Monadelphous Wins Extension on Services Contract with Gorgon

Australia's Monadelphous said Friday that it has won a one-year extension for an existing facilities management services contract on the Chevron-operated Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, offshore Barrow Island.

The contract – valued at around $135.2 million – is for the operation and maintenance of construction facilities and utilities on Barrow Island. The scope of work includes the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants, power generation and distribution systems, as well as the management and maintenance of various buildings, vehicles, plant and equipment.

The original contract was secured in November 2009 and was for an initial three-year term. Monadelphous said in a statement that "around 175 people were employed as a result of the contact in the last financial year."

Chevron is the largest shareholder in Gorgon with a 47 percent interest and acts as operator, while Exxon and Royal Dutch Shell PLC own 25 percent stakes each. Three Japanese companies that will import much of Chevron's share of LNG from Gorgon own the remaining interest.
