Lukoil Adds to Sierra Leone Assets

Russia's Lukoil announced late Wednesday that it has acquired a 25-pecent stake in an exploration and development project offshore Sierra Leone.

Lukoil said it bought the stake in the SL-4B-10 offshore block, which is located in the waters of the Gulf of Guinea, from Canada's Talisman Energy – the operator of the project. Other partners in the project include Malaysia's Petronas (25%) and the UK's Prontinal (20%).

The SL-4B-10 block, with an area of approximately 850 square miles and in water depths ranging from 330 feet to 9850 feet, borders block SL-05-11, where Lukoil is the operator.

Prospecting and exploratory drilling is currently being conducted on a structure known as "Djembe" within the SL-4B-10 block with the rig Stena DrillMax (UDW drillship)
