China's JES Wins First Offshore Support Vessel Contract

JES International – a major shipbuilding group based in China – said Monday that it has secured its first newbuild contract for a platform support vessel.

The company inked a shipbuilding contract for one unit of UT 755 LN Platform Support Vessel through its wholly owned subsidiaries, JES Universal and Jiangsu Eastern Heavy Industry.

JES said in a statement that "the deal is representative of the Group's expansion from building commercial shipping vessels to constructing more complicated and sophisticated offshore support vessels."

Delivery of the vessel to a new customer based in Norway is expected to take place at the end of the company's fiscal year in 2014.
