Azerbaijan Suspends Turkish Gas Delivery from Shah Deniz Field

change text size

BAKU, Azerbaijan - Delivery of gas to Turkey from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field has been temporarily suspended at the request of Turkey's state-owned pipeline company, a spokeswoman for BP Azerbaijan said Thursday.

"Gas supplies to Turkey from the Shah Deniz field were suspended last night at the request of Turkey's Botas," said spokeswoman Tamam Bayatly.

She said that gas was continuing to be delivered to Turkey as usual through the Southern Caucasus pipeline.

BP Azerbaijan didn't give a reason for the supply suspension or when it might resume.

Turkish media reported that supply was suspended due to an explosion along the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline near the Turkish town of Kars late Wednesday.
