Drillsearch, Beach Test Eastern Extent of Bauer Oil Field
The PEL 91 joint venture – a partnership between Drillsearch Energy and Beach Energy – has spud a second appraisal and development well to test the eastern extent of the onshore Bauer oil field in the Cooper Basin Western Flank, Drillsearch said in a statement Monday.
Besides testing the field's boundary, Bauer-7 will also be used to appraise the new Birkhead Formation pay zone that flowed 1,160 barrels per day of 48.3 degree API light, sweet crude during testing at the Bauer-5 well. Bauer-7 is sited around 0.31 miles (500 meters) to the east, southeast of Bauer-5.
Bauer-7 will be completed as a production well if successful.
After drilling Bauer-7, Ensign 930 – the rig used in the drilling of Bauer-5 and Bauer-7 – will be moved to drill the Bauer-6 well.
Commenting on the JV's plans for the Bauer oil field, Drillsearch's managing director Brad Lingo disclosed to Rigzone through a telephone interview that a fourth appraisal and development well – Bauer-8 – will be drilled after the drilling of Bauer-6 is completed.
The PEL 91 JV detailed on July 12, 2012 plans to drill seven appraisal and development wells and five exploration wells in the Cooper Basin Western Flank.
The JV is especially keen to develop the Bauer oil field. There are at present four production wells – Bauer-1 to 4 – in the Bauer oil field. Oil is being produced from the Bauer-1 to 3 production wells at a consistent rate of 800 barrels of oil per day (bopd) to 1,200 bopd.
PEL 91 is located on the western margin of the
