Intertek Says Hello to New Operations Manager

Intertek, the global quality services provider, has appointed Mark Macleod as operations manager to drive forward business in the Asset Integrity Management service line internationally.

Based in Alness, Scotland, Mr. Macleod is responsible for the international operations and of dimensional control and laser scanning services, formerly operating as Intertek Hi-Cad.

Mr. Macleod has previously worked at Hi-Cad, which was acquired by Intertek in 2008. During his time there he was based in the US and involved in many high profile projects including work for NASA on the Hubble telescope replacement project.

Mr. Macleod joins from renewable energy company GEF Eco, where he was managing director. With almost 20 years' experience in the field, he brings extensive industry knowledge across a broad scope of projects to the team.

Mr. Macleod said: "We see significant opportunities across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa as asset integrity management continues to be a growing concern for oil and gas operators. We are focused on delivering an integrated folio of dimensional control services including 3-D laser scanning, in-service inspection and corrosion management. I have worked around the world, from the Arctic to Singapore, and look forward to bringing my experience to Intertek to support the growth of the business internationally."

Mr. Macleod will be responsible for managing a team of 24 including field engineers who work on projects around the world from the offices in Alness, with plans to recruit more people when Intertek's energy services headquarters open in Aberdeen in June.

Beginning his career in civil engineering at Halcrow Crouch, Mr. Macleod then transferred his skills into the oil and gas sector in 1998. He worked at Halliburton for two years as control surveyor before moving to N.B. Surveys. Mark also worked for Terrasond in the US where he developed dimensional control and laser scanning departments in the Americas region.

Joining Hi-Cad in 2001, Mr. Macleod held several positions, progressing from senior surveyor to operations manager for the Americas region in 2005. He was project lead surveyor for the Hubble telescope replacement project for NASA, and dimensional control manager for Shell on the world record-breaking Perdido project. Located in the ultra-deep sector of the Gulf of Mexico, it is the deepest offshore drilling and production facility in the world.

Raymond Pirie, vice president for Intertek's global upstream business, said: "Mark's previous experience at Hi-Cad, and in other roles, proves his strong credentials. This specialist expertise in dimensional control is valuable to Intertek as operators are increasingly dealing with the challenge of sustaining facilities beyond their design life. We are also seeing more regulation in this area and we have the integrated services to deal with the issues to help our clients comply."
