Technip Enters Middle East Subsea Market

change text size

French oilfield services firm Technip said Monday that an award from Dubai Petroleum marks the firm's entry in the Middle Eastern subsea market.

Technip has been awarded an engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) contract for the South West Fatah and Falah fields, which are located some 55 miles offshore Dubai at a water depth of up to 174 feet.

The scope of the contract includes the replacement of a 12-inch gas pipeline and six 18-inch water injection pipelines.

Technip's operating center in Abu Dhabi will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. Technip said that its flagship S-Lay installation vessel, the G1201, will be used for the pipe laying, along with a diving support vessel.

"This contract is a significant milestone for Technip in the Middle East. It confirms our entry into the promising subsea business in the region, where we were traditionally focused on the onshore and offshore markets, thanks notably to positions and assets gained from the acquisition of Global Industries in 2011," Arturo Grimaldi, Technip's senior vice president for the Middle East, said in a press statement.
