Sumitomo Pre-Qualified as Licensee on Norwegian Shelf

Sumitomo Corporation has been pre-qualified as licensee on the Norwegian continental shelf. In order to attract new, competent players to the shelf, the Norwegian authorities have set up a system for prequalification of both licensees and operators.

The background for setting up this system is to offer the companies an evaluation of their suitability for participation on the Norwegian continental shelf prior to the companies using resources on assessing specific business opportunities.

Sumitomo Corporation is a Japanese company involved in a large range of business areas; transportation, metals, electrical and chemical products, minerals, energy and consumer goods. The company has 30.000 employees.

Sumitomo has been involved with the oil and gas industry for more the 20 years. The company is engaged in the U.K., Qatar, Oman, Syria, Iraq, Indonesia, Vietnam, Australia, China and Peru. Sumitomo participates in 18 blocks and 6 producing fields in the U.K.
