Parker Hannifin Bags Polyster Mooring Contract for Jack/St. Malo
The Energy Products Division (EPD) of Parker Hannifin Corporation, the leader in motion and control technologies, has been awarded a contract by Chevron U.S.A. The scope of the agreement is for 164,042 feet (50,000m) of polyester mooring rope, accessories and field support services for the mooring of the Jack/St. Malo floating production unit, located in the Walker Ridge area of the Gulf of Mexico. The mooring rope will be installed in approximately 7,000 feet (2,100 meters) water depth.
The order encompasses design, production and delivery of polyester mooring line as well as offshore field inspection support services during installation. The mooring line has a maximum breaking load (MBL) of 2,301 metric tonnes (22,563kN). This MBL is among the highest strengths ever to be installed in deepwater projects. In November of 2010, Parker Scanrope, the mooring business unit of EPD, surpassed this breaking load during the qualification phase, maxing out at 2,545 metric tonnes (24,960kN).
Parker's integrated manufacturing facility, located on the Oslo fjord and backed by more than 200 years of mooring experience, supports the production of the largest diameter and longest mooring lines in the world. The Jack/St. Malo contract follows on the heels of Parker's successful manufacturing, delivery and installation of over 114,829 feet (35,000m) of fiber mooring in 8,000 feet (2,450 meters) water depth for the Shell/Technip Perdido SPAR project in fiber and steel.
