Total Strikes O&G Offshore Norway

Total has proved oil and gas in wildcat well 6607/12-2 S in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The primary exploratory target for the well was to determine petroleum in Middle and Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Fangst and Bat group formations. The secondary exploration target was to prove petroleum in Cretaceous reservoir rocks in the Cromer Knoll group.

The well proved oil and gas in both the primary and secondary exploration targets with reservoir properties as expected. Total said preliminary estimates of the size of the discovery are between 3 and 16 million Sm3 recoverable oil equivalents. The well was not formation tested, but comprehensive data acquisition and sampling were carried out.

Drilled by the Songa Delta semisub, the well reached a vertical depth of 13,927 feet (4,245 meters) and terminated in early Jurassic rocks. The well will be temporarily plugged and abandoned.
