Lundin Spuds Batu Hitam Well Offshore Malaysia

Lundin Petroleum has commenced exploratory drilling on the Batu Hitam prospect located in Block PM308A, offshore Malaysia. The Batu Hitam-1 well is testing the hydrocarbon potential of a large basement high structure located to the east of the PM308A block.

The objectives of the well are Oligocene sandstones in a four-way dip closure and a fractured pre-Tertiary basement in the underlying horst block. The Offshore Courageous jackup is drilling the well to a planned total depth of 8,038 feet (2,450 meters). Drilling operations should take about 40 days.

Lundin operates the block and holds a 35% interest; JX Nippon Oil & Gas holds 40%; and Petronas Carigali holds 25%.
