Idemitsu Petroleum Drills Duster in North Sea

Idemitsu Petroleum Norge failed to hit pay in wildcat well 35/7-1 ST2, in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The primary exploratory target for the well was to determine hydrocarbons in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Brent group. The secondary exploratory target was to prove hydrocarbons in the Cook formation from the Early Jurassic Age. The well encountered both the Brent group and the Cook formation, but both had poorer reservoir quality than expected. The operator acquired data and samples prior to permanently plugging and abandoning the well.

The well, drilled to a vertical depth of 15,659 feet (4,773 meters) by the Aker Barents semisub, terminated in the Dunlin group from the early Jurassic age. The water depth of the site is 1,266 feet (386 meters).
