Meridian Makes Discovery In Cameron Parish, Louisiana

Meridian Resource Corporation announced a new exploration discovery at its SL 15223 No. 1 well in it's Thornwell/Lakeside project located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. Electric logs indicate apparent pay in the objective Marg Howei and Camerina sands with a productive interval of approximately 142 gross feet and 108 net feet of pay. Meridian holds approximately 73% working interest and is the operator of the field.

The SL 15223 well was drilled to a total depth of 18,006 feet and completion operations are currently underway in the Camerina 3 sand at approximately 16,500 feet. A second well to test a larger fault block adjacent to the discovery well is scheduled immediately following completion of the No. 1 well. In addition to the Marg Howei and Camerina sand targets, future wells in the field may be deepened to test the Miogyp sand, which was encountered in the No. 1 well in an off-structure position. Shallower levels at the Lakeside field have produced more than 300 billion cubic feet of gas equivalent (Bcfe) since the field's discovery in 1941.
