Petronas-Shell JV Makes Discovery Offshore Malaysia

Malaysia's CS Mutiara Petroleum Co. Sdn. Bhd., a 50-50 joint venture between Petronas Carigali and Shell Malaysia Exploration & Production, has discovered gas in Block PM 301 offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

The estimated recoverable gas reserves in two gas zones were put at 0.2 trillion cubic feet, subject to further technical evaluation.

The 2,070-meter-deep Bunga Kamelia-1 well, located 30 kilometers east of the Bergading gas field in Block PM 302, was spudded Nov. 5, 2003.

CS Mutiara Petroleum has no immediate plan to appraise the Bunga Kamelia gas field, as the company is now working towards its 2004 drilling campaign.

The joint venture company was formed in July 2001, operating two blocks - PM 301 and PM 302. The Bunga Kamelia-1 well is its third exploration well.
