BG-Ophir JV Uncorks Second Gas Find Offshore Tanzania

Ophir Energy has hit gas pay in the Chewa-1 well in Block 4 about 50 miles (80 kilometers) offshore southern Tanzania in a water depth of around 4,265 feet (1,300 meters). Chewa-1 is the second of a three-well initial work program planned for Blocks 1, 3 and 4 offshore southern Tanzania. BG Group will acquire 60% of Ophir's interests in each of the offshore blocks by contributing 85% toward costs, which include an initial work program. Ophir Energy is the current operator of Blocks 1, 3 and 4 of the Mafia deep offshore basin and northern portion of the Ruvuma Basin.
