Exxon Mobil Corporation announced that its subsidiary, Esso Exploration Angola (Block 24) Limited (Esso), has completed drilling the Semba-1 wildcat well on Angola Block 24. Semba-1 was spudded on February 21, 2001, and is the first well drilled in this block. The well was drilled by Transocean Sedco Forex's semisubmersible, Jim Cunningham.
The well encountered two oil-bearing reservoirs that flowed at a combined test rate of 3,039 barrels per day. The well was drilled in 3,800 feet of water to a total depth of 12,300 feet. It is located approximately 230 miles southwest of Luanda.
