The Skarv FPSO, the first of its kind for BP Norway, was named at a ceremony in Geoje in South Korea on November 9th.
Rebecca Wiles, Managing Director of BP Norway said, "Today is a very important day for BP as the operator and the Skarv partners as a key milestone has been successfully reached in the development of the field. I am very pleased with the excellent work and high safety performance during the construction of the vessel in the Skarv Project, and at the Samsung yard."
The Skarv FPSO incorporates the latest technological developments that will increase the efficiency of operations. The vessel which is close to 300 m long and 50 m wide ranks as the world's largest gas processing vessel with a capacity of 15 million standard cubic meters of gas and 80,000 barrels of oil per day. Total storage capacity is 875,000 barrels of oil.
Godmother Siri Meling
Godmother Siri Meling, member of the Norwegian Parliament and First Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Energy and the Environment said, "I am honored to be here today and the development and operations of the Skarv field will create significant value for the Norwegian society and generate important ripple effects for the local communities in Nordland County."
The Skarv FPSO will be supported by BP's office in Stavanger, a local office and supply base in Sandnessjøen and helicopter transport from Brønnøysund in Nordland County.
