IPR, operator of the Yidma-Alamein Development License located in the northeastern Western Desert, has discovered another oil field on the heels of the Alexander field discovery in the prior quarter. The NE Alamein-1X discovery was spud on August 5, 2010, with primary targets in the Abu Roash, Bahariya and Razzak formations. The well is located approximately 6 km east of the Alamein field and 2 km east of the Zain field.

NE Alamein, drilled by IPR and Japanese partner Sojitz, reached 7,300 ft in 21 days. Based on mud logs and electric logs, NE Alamein has penetrated seven hydrocarbon bearing saturated zones, including four in the Abu Roash, two in the Bahariya and one in the Razzak. All zones are structurally downdip from a nearby producing field in a neighboring concession, giving greater enthusiasm of the extent of the field.

The Razzak is a known oil producing zone with a strong water drive. The decision was made to test the Razzak with a completion string and put the well on production, which was achieved in less than one week. The well was opened to a separator and tanks at the location with 35˚API oil flowing naturally 555 bbl with no water cut.

IPR is currently drilling the next well, NE Alamein-2X, at the NE Alamein field to test and produce an excellent sand penetrated in the Abu Roash E. Electric log measurements indicate the E sand has porosities from 27 to 30%. Additional wells are anticipated to develop other zones and to investigate deeper potential in this new structure.

IPR CEO Dr. M.K. Dabbous has stated, "that while our recent discoveries in the new deeper Alam El Bueib (AEB) have confirmed new exploration targets in the area, IPR has not forgotten the traditional reservoirs that have been the mainstay of the production in Yidma-Alamein. NE Alamein-1X is proof of the value of our robust inventory of traditional exploration targets. IPR is dedicated to continuing to increase the Yidma-Alamein reserves as well as the daily production rate."
