Suncor Energy

From humble beginnings selling lubricating oils, kerosene and spirits to Canadian war plants in 1917, Suncor has grown into a major independent energy company. Today we're a world leader in mining and extracting crude oil from the vast oil sands deposits of Northern Canada. We also explore for, develop and market conventional crude oil and natural gas in Western Canada.

Under the Sunoco brand in Central Canada, Suncor has a top-ranked refinery and a strong retail marketing and wholesale distribution network. And in Queensland, Australia, we operate an oil shale development project.

The company has assets of CDN $5.1 billion and production of 142,800 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Suncor is a spectacular business turnaround story. Nine years ago, as one executive put it, "our business was stuck." After a period of difficult change, Suncor emerged with a fresh attitude, a winning spirit and a strong balance sheet. Today we're growing our businesses in Canada and reaching out as far as Australia to explore new opportunities.

We pride ourselves on our technical excellence and the cost-effectiveness of our operations. Suncor employs 2,700 people who think creatively, set bold objectives and deliver on them. And we care about environmental management, with over $35 million of capital spent on environmental projects in the past three years. Suncor has big plans for growth, backed by a proven record of financial and operating performance.
