E.ON Begins Gas Flow from Babbage Field

Gas is flowing from the Babbage field, reported E.ON Ruhrgas. The field is expected to produce more than 5 Bcm of natural gas during its 20-year estimated field life. Receiving approval from the UK government in 2009, the field will be executed in two phases. The first phase of development included the installation of the Babbage platform, drilling of three production wells, and the laying of a 17-mile (28-kilometer) pipeline to connect the field to existing infrastructure. The second phase of development calls for two additional wells in 2011. Babbage is located on Block 48/2 in the UK sector of the North Sea. E.ON Ruhrgas serves as the operator and holds a 47% interest; Dana Petroleum holds 40% interest; and Centrica Resources holds the remaining 13% interest.
