Banda Results Poor But Still Encouraging

Kosmos Energy has discovered oil in the Banda-1 well in the West Cape Three Points license offshore Ghana. The Banda-1 well encountered oil in the Cenomanian-aged reservoir.

Banda-1 intersected Cenomanian turbidites over a gross vertical interval of 984 feet (300 meters), containing more than 328 feet (100 meters) of low porosity sandstone and 10 feet (3 meters) of 40 degree API oil pay. Kosmos stated that the discovery opens a new play fairway not previously encountered on the West Cape Three Points block or adjacent Deepwater Tano block.

However, additional technical evaluation is required to analyze the impact and extent of this new play discovery, which is deeper than existing Campanian and Turonian discoveries on Kosmos’ Ghana blocks.

Banda-1 was drilled by the Atwood Hunter semisub in a water depth of 3,022 feet (921 meters) to a total depth of 15,026 feet (4,580 meters) in the eastern portion of the West Cape Three Points block. Kosmos Energy operates the block, holding a 30.875% interest.
