Apache says its Spar-2 appraisal well has confirmed 180 feet (55 meters) of net gas pay in the primary target of the Upper Barrow reservoir.
The well flowed at a rate of 58 MMcf/d of natural gas with 16 barrels per million cubic feet of gas through a 1-inch choke. The well was completed as a producing gas well.
With the Spar-2 net gas pay confirming above pre-drill estimates, the recoverable resource is expected to be significantly greater than the previously stated 335 PJ gross. The operator plans to tie the well back to Varanus Island via the Halyard development.
Spar-2 is located about 43 miles (70 kilometers) west of Varanus Island, in the Carnarvon Basin, Western Australia.
