Wood Group Pressure Control's Shawnee, Oklahoma, wellhead manufacturing facility was granted Highly Protected Risk (HPR) status by insurer FM Global. This coveted status reflects the completion of a rigorous property protection evaluation and the implementation of measures that reduce the likelihood and potential severity of property losses.
FM Global rated the facility's risk against other industrial machine shops, measuring both equipment hazards and human element programs. Wood Group Pressure Control's Shawnee facility scored in the top five per cent of more than 5000 machine shops inspected by FM Global. Protection measures implemented by the facility include an improved hot work permit system, infrared thermographic surveys of electrical components and loads, automated monitoring and visual checks of the sprinkler system, and an updated emergency response plan.
"All reasonable physical and human element loss-prevention programs have been implemented at the Shawnee facility and those will further reduce the likelihood and severity of possible property loss," stated Jack Haas, global services group manager at FM Global. "As a 'highly protected risk' the facility is better positioned to minimize the business impact of any property loss, thereby making it a more reliable source of wellheads and valves.'
"We are honored to receive this award, which recognizes the improvements we've made to protect the facility and our people here at Shawnee," said Scott Bender, president of Wood Group Pressure Control. "Safety is our primary concern and I'd like to thank and congratulate all our Shawnee employees on this achievement."
Wood Group Pressure Control has manufacturing facilities in eight countries; the Shawnee facility is the largest.
