Drilling has commenced on the Maria prospect in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The Songa Delta semisub is performing the drilling operations, which should take about 53 days. Drilled in 1988, a previous well, 6406/3-5, encountered oil shows and is thought to be located down dip of the Maria prospect. Maria consists of two possible accumulations, Maria South and Maria North, located up dip to the southwest and northeast of the 6406/3-5 well. The Maria well is targeting Maria South. The Maria prospect is located on Blocks 6407/1 and 6406/3 is situated on the North East Halten Terrace. Wintershall operates the license, holding a 25% interest.
