BJ Bags Gorgon Precommissioning Gig

BJ Services (Australia) Pty Ltd has been awarded a US $80 million dollar contract by Chevron Australia Pty Ltd to provide pipeline precommissioning services associated with the construction of the Gorgon Project, located off the coast of Western Australia.

BJ Services anticipates that the contract will create 30 new jobs in Perth, Western Australia, to support the project during the next three years.

The Gorgon Project involves the development of the Jansz and Gorgon fields located approximately 130km to 200km off the northwest coast of Western Australia. The project consists of subsea facilities, offshore and onshore pipelines and umbilicals tied back to an LNG processing facility on Barrow Island (BWI).

The Chevron-operated Gorgon Project is a joint venture of the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (approximately 47 percent), ExxonMobil (25 percent) and Shell (25 percent), Osaka Gas (1.25 percent), Tokyo Gas (one percent) and Chubu Electric (0.417 percent).

Perth Base to Feature Dedicated Zone for Gorgon Project

The project will be managed from BJ Services' new dedicated facility in Welshpool, Perth, which was recently opened to meet the demands of the growing Western Australia market, and to ensure that customers receive quality service for world class projects, such as the Gorgon Project. A dedicated zone at the base will be created to quarantine all equipment designated for use on BWI. One of the keys to success of this operation will be the cleaning and preparation of all equipment to meet the stringent quarantine standards on BWI.

Engineering and planning work commenced in January 2010. The first mobilisation is scheduled to take place in 4Q 2010.
