Det norske Spuds Appraisal Well at Draupne

Det norske has started drilling the appraisal well 16/1-11 on Draupne. The Draupne prospect is located in production license 001B in the North Sea.

In April 2008 the license reported a discovery of oil and gas in well 16/1-9. There was encountered hydrocarbons in a 44 m thick sandstone of Middle Jurassic age. Proven recoverable resources are between 4 and 5 million standard cubic meters (MSm3) of oil equivalent. The final size and commercial potential depends on the results of the appraisal well and further evaluations.

The discovery opens for a possible commercial production of the two previous oil discoveries in the area (in PL028B Hanz and West Cable PL242) in which Det norske also has ownership interests. Lundin's discovery, Luno, is also close to Draupne, and an area development is a possibility.

Det norske is the operator of PL001B with a 35 percent stake. Partners in the license are Statoil (50 percent) and Bayerngas (15 percent).

Drilling will be conducted with the semi-submersible drilling rig Songa Delta.
