MCS Has Solution to Meet Tougher MMS Regulations in GOM

MCS

MCS will ensure that oil and gas operators are able to comply with new, tougher Minerals Management Service (MMS) regulations 30 CFR 250 in the Gulf of Mexico. The global subsea technology company is launching a series of enhanced integrity management measures at this year's OTC.

The company believes that their unrivalled experience and advanced subsea engineering capabilities combined with proprietary software in integrity management will help companies meet the new regulations.

With sixteen years experience in integrity management of subsea pipelines around the world, MCS has further enhanced its package of measures to meet the new mandatory regulations expected to be introduced at the end of 2009.

Their practical field experience and lessons leant from shared industry practice through participation in three JIPs have enabled MCS to develop advanced engineering solutions to the problems of ensuring the integrity of complex subsea systems required to extract hydrocarbons in increasingly deeper waters.

Their solution comprises a pro-active approach to integrity management, involving inspection, predictive engineering, data collection and analysis, as well as reporting and uses MCS' software tool ThruLife. The software allows engineers and their client operators, as asset owner, authorities, such as MMS, to see the exact integrity status of a subsea system at a glance, showing evidence of fitness for on-going use, which allows planning for maintenance, repair or replacement.

MCS also announces at OTC the appointment of Adriana Botto to expand the company's capability and capacity in integrity management. With a Master of Science Degree in Naval and Ocean Engineering and a Major in Subsea Engineering from COPPE -- Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ms. Botto brings extensive experience in integrity management of steel & flexible pipe, risers, flowlines, umbilicals and subsea equipment to the management team which now comprises experienced and dedicated personnel from across MCS' offices, worldwide.

Ms. Botto originally joined MCS’ Perth office in 2006 as integrity management team leader from Petrobras, where she headed up the integrity management group. While at Petrobras, she was responsible for the flexible pipe inspection on the Marlim field and played an integral role in the development of the oil major's risk-based inspection program, the development of new inspection tools for flexible pipe failures and structural integrity analyses applied to steel catenary risers.

Commenting on her appointment, Kieran Kavanagh, President of MCS Houston said, "We are delighted to welcome Adriana to MCS-Houston, where her experience and expertise will further enhance our integrity management service. With some of the leading industry experts and our advanced capability in this field, MCS has a world class total package to help companies deal with issues of integrity relating to complex subsea facilities."

An advanced subsea technology company with offices in Galway, Aberdeen, Houston, Rio, Perth, Paris and Kuala Lumpur, MCS is a subsidiary of international energy services company John Wood Group PLC ("Wood Group"). It provides engineering solutions including riser design experience, proprietary software and subsea integrity management across a wide variety of projects worldwide.
