A fire affecting a section of Shell's Trans Niger pipeline earlier this week has been extinguished, said a Royal Dutch Shell representative.

Though Shell stated that flows in the pipeline were not disrupted during the fire, repairs were needed during the week and completed on the morning of April 4. Repairs were not possible until the affected section of the pipeline could be reached by Shell personnel.

Shell reported that the fire had been started by locals trying to steal oil from the pipeline. The individuals reportedly used a hacksaw to cut into the pipeline.

The Trans Niger Pipeline connected to the Bonny light oil terminal.
