Chevron Corp. (CVX) has cut oil output from Nigeria by 42,000 barrels a day following an invasion of its Abiteye flow station, Reuters news agency said Monday.
Earlier, Chevron Nigeria Ltd., operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company/Chevron Joint Venture, confirmed a group of 20 armed youths invaded the station Sunday.
"The situation is currently under control," spokesman Michael Barrett said in a statement. "We will continue to monitor the area closely and to take appropriate security measures."
Earlier, authorities reported a separate incident where gunmen overran a flowstation run by Eni SpA (E) subsidiary Agip and were holding workers and army soldiers inside.
