The PSA Investigates Lifting Incident on Scarabeo 5

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has started investigation of an incident that occurred on May 11th on the Scarabeo 5. One person suffered a shoulder injury in connection with a lifting operation on the drill floor.

The incident occurred in connection with lifting a new cylinder on to the drill floor. The person was injured in the shoulder during the lifting operation, and transported by SAR helicopter to Kristiansund hospital. The potential of the incident has not been clarified.

The objective of the PSA's investigation is to clarify the scope and course of events in the incident, as well as to describe actual and potential consequences for personnel and material assets.

The investigation group will also clarify the triggering and underlying causes of the incident. The investigation will result in a report that will be published on the PSA's website.

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway is conducting an independent investigation. The Kristiansund police have also requested assistance in their investigation.

The Scarabeo 5 is owned by Saipem, and the incident occurred during drilling for Statoil on the Kristin field in the Norwegian Sea.
