Fire at Kuwait's Burgan Oil Field Under Control

Kuwait Oil Co., the state oil producer, has brought under control a fire that broke out at the country's giant Burgan oil field, state news agency Kuna reported Monday.

The fire, which broke out in a gathering center at the field, has not affected KOC's oil and gas production and was brought under control in record time, Kuna quoted a KOC spokesman as saying.

One contractor was injured in the incident, Kuna reported.

The impact of the blaze will be limited to the supply of natural gas to a liquefied petroleum gas plant operated by Kuwait National Petroleum Corp., according to Kuna.

However, a KNPC spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires on the phone from Kuwait that the LPG facility at KNPC's Mina Al Ahmadi refinery, which receives associated gas from the affected gathering center, was "still running" and receiving feedstock from the "KOC support network."

"We were told that everything is under control," the spokesman added.

Kuwait is the fourth largest oil producer in the Middle East and operates three refineries at Mina al-Ahmadi, Mina Abdullah and Shuaiba.

The country's total refining capacity stands at about 930,000 b/d.
