Delmar Systems Sets New Subsea Installation Record

change text size
Delmar Systems, Inc. continues to meet the challenges of the offshore ultra-deepwater projects. Delmar, on behalf of Kerr-McGee, completed the first of multiple installations for the Independence Hub host facility. This first installation using the Heave Compensated Landing Systems (HCLS) included two subsea Christmas Trees for wells that will be tied back from the Atwater Valley Merganser field to the Independence Hub production facility.

Delmar successfully installed the 10,000-psi trees from an anchor handling vessel (AHV) in 7,950' of water, establishing a new world record for installation. Delmar also holds the previous world record depth for installation work in 7,570' for the Shell Coulomb development. The HCLS provides for a safe, efficient, and cost-effective method for subsea component installation. Delmar is a licensed user of this patented technology owned by Shell Oil Company (US Patent # 5,190,107).

Kerr-McGee discovered Merganser in 2001. It is located approximately 180 miles south of Mobile, Alabama. Kerr-McGee is the operator with a 50% working interest; Devon Energy holds the remaining 50% working interest.

The Independence Hub is owned by an affiliate of Enterprise Products Partners, LP and Helix Energy Solutions and will be operated by Anadarko Petroleum Corp. Once installed it will be the deepest Floating Offshore Installation (FOI) unit in the world, located in the Gulf of Mexico in Mississippi Canyon block 920 in 8,000' water depth. The Independence Hub will initially provide production facilities for 10 independent fields - Atlas, Atlas NW, Cheyenne, Jubilee, Merganser, Mondo, Q, San Jacinto, Spiderman, and Vortex.

Delmar Systems, Inc. provides engineering, technical, and installation solutions for mooring and subsea projects on a global basis for the offshore industry.
