Saipem Wins Gbaran Work in Nigeria

Saipem has been awarded a US $420 million contract for the engineering, procurement and construction of pipelines, flowlines and composite fiber optic and high voltage electrical cables connecting the Gbaran oil and gas production fields - in Bayelsa State in Niger delta, with the central processing facility in the area.

The contract has been awarded by Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) within the Gbaran/Ubie integrated oil & gas project. The contract calls also for the laying of 340 kilometers of pipelines and flowlines. Work is expected to be completed at the end of 2008.

Project Management, Engineering and Procurement Services will be carried out in Saipem's operations base located in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, in accordance with the company's policy of maximizing its local content profile.

Saipem, which has been operating in Nigeria since late 1960s, employs about 2,400 local staff and is currently executing more than ten contracts, including the development of the Akpo offshore field, 200 kilometers south of Port Harcourt.
