Total Production Underway on CLOV Development off Angola
Production is underway in CLOV, a major deepwater development 86 miles (140 kilometers) off the coast of Angola in Block 17, French oil and gas major and 40-percent operator Total S.A. said Thursday. CLOV has a capacity of 160,000 barrels of oil per day, with proven and probable reserves of more than 500 million barrels, the company said.
“CLOV is a flagship project for Total. It demonstrates the Group’s capacity to successfully start-up projects on time and within budget while mastering cutting-edge deep offshore technologies and keeping safety and environment a top priority,” Arnaud Breuillac, Total’s Exploration & Production president, said in a statement.
CLOV is expected to bring Total “a step closer to achieving our production potential of 3 million barrels per day by 2017,” Breuillac said.
The CLOV project is the four developing fields of Cravo, Lirio, Orquidea and Violeta. It comprises 34 wells and 8 manifolds that are connected by 111 miles (180 kilometers) of subsea pipelines to a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FLSO) FPSO unit between 3,609-4,593 feet (1,100 and 1,400 meters) deep, the company said.
Block 17 is operated by Total, Statoil ASA, Esso (Exxon Mobil Corp.) and BP plc.
