change text size

MOSCOW - Oil giant BP PLC has expressed interest in building and using one of the additional pipelines of the Nord Stream pipelines that ships Russian natural gas to western Europe via the Baltic Sea, Russia's natural gas monopoly OAO Gazprom Chief Executive Alexei Miller said Friday.

Speaking at a televised press-conference Miller said that the decision on the construction of the third and fourth lines of the Nord Stream may be reached by the end of 2012.

Currently Gazprom, which leads the consortium that operates the natural gas pipeline, is conducting a feasibility study into possible options to further increase capacities of Nord Stream.

Separately Miller said that new deal on Arctic natural-gas project Shtokman, led by Gazprom, may be signed next week.

France's Total SA and Norway's Statoil ASA also participate in the project.
