Salamander Hires Ocean General Rig for Indonesian Campaign

change text size

South East Asia-focused Salamander Energy plans to use the Ocean General (mid-water semisub) rig for its upcoming drilling campaign in Indonesia, the firm said Thursday.

Salamander – along with its three partners – has signed a rig-sharing agreement for the Ocean General, which will be on contract to the company and its consortium partners from July 1.

Salamander will use the Ocean General for its upcoming North Kutei exploration drilling campaign at its Bontang and SE Sangatta production sharing contracts, where it is the operator. The company has committed to drill the South Kecapi, South Kecapi side-track, North Kendang and Bedug prospects and its agreement gives it an additional four option-well slots to allow follow-up drilling in the event of success.

At Bontang, Salamander is targeting resources of 60 billion cubic feet of gas, with a 70-percent chance of success, according to the firm's 2012 exploration and appraisal plan.

Drilling is expected to begin in the North Kutei acreage in the fourth quarter of 2012.

As well as its focus on North Kutei, Salamander is also focused on assets in the Gulf of Thailand and Greater Kerendan, Indonesia.
