change text size

KUALA LUMPUR - Petronas, Malaysia's national oil and gas company, said late Tuesday that it has stopped production at a drilling platform offshore the eastern state of Sarawak after a fire.

The fire started during maintenance Monday and was extinguished 45 minutes later, posing no further threat to personnel, assets or the environment, although five out of 16 persons on board were injured and have been evacuated, Petronas said in a statement.

"There is no spillage, leakage or explosion," the company said, adding that an investigation is being conducted on the cause of the accident.
