Technip Wins Offshore LNG Services Contract from Petronas

French oilfield services firm Technip announced Tuesday that a consortium it is a part of has won a services contract with Malaysia's Petronas Floating LNG 1 to build and manage a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility of up to 1.2 million tons per annum capacity.

The consortium includes Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and is known as the Technip-Daewoo Consortium.

The 980 foot-long (300 meter-long) and 195 foot-wide (60 meter-wide) FLNG facility will be sited offshore Malaysia.

TDC's services contract is for engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the FLNG facility.

The detailed design of the topsides will be executed by Technip's operating centers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Paris, France. The engineering of the hull and building of the FLNG facility will take place at Daewoo’s shipyard in Okpo, South Korea. This contract follows the successful completion of the front-end engineering design phase awarded to TDC in December 2010.

Petronas Floating LNG 1 is a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas).

Petronas is currently building FLNG vessels for two projects. At least one of these projects, the locations of which are so far undisclosed, is set to occur a year before Royal Dutch Shell's Prelude project is scheduled to be ready in 2017.
