Two Workers Injured at Oil Services Site Blast In Texas

HOUSTON - Two workers were injured Wednesday following an early morning explosion and fire at an oil field services company site in Nixon, Texas, according to news reports.

The explosion occurred around 2:30 a.m. at a facility run by Vann Energy, a company that transports and maintains equipment used in oil and natural gas exploration. The Gonzales County Sheriff's Office told the Associated Press the two workers suffered second-degree burns and were airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Surrounding homes were evacuated briefly, according to the report, but residents have been allowed back inside. Nixon is about 50 miles southeast of San Antonio.

A woman who answered the phone at Vann Energy declined to comment.

Vann Energy's Nixon maintenance facility, where the accident occurred, was cited by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration in February with 17 serious violations for failing to provide proper equipment, training and permits for workers cleaning out water storage tanks used in hydraulic fracturing operations. Proposed penalties total $70,200.

A spokeswoman for OSHA said investigators were on site Wednesday and have opened an investigation.
