BP Norge AS (BP) on Tuesday received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway to use the mobile Polar Pioneer (mid-water semisub) drilling facility to drill exploration well 6507/3-9 in the Norwegian Sea.
Well 6507/3-9 is part of production licence 212 E. The objective of the drilling is to investigate a prospect BP named “Snadd Outer”.
The facility’s planned position is:
- 65° 56' 49.900" North
- 07° 41' 40.459" East
Water depth at the site is 1,194 feet (364 meters.)
The activity has a planned duration of up to 60 days, starting up in the first half of 2012.
Polar Pioneer is operated by Transocean Offshore and is a semisubmersible drilling facility built at Hitachi Zosen, Ariake, Japan.
The facility received the PSA’s Acknowledgement of Compliance in May 2004.
