Great points made here, Jaime.
Thanks for pointing hiring managers in the right direction. When making the transition out of the military, it can be difficult to know what opportunities there may be.
There are huge benefits to be gained from pursuing former Navy nuclear electricians, helicopter crew chiefs, etc. These folks are quick thinkers and they are fanatical about the quality of their work.
I was able to take my own experience as an aviation hydraulic technician and translate it into a career designing and selling industrial hydraulic systems. A lot of it was sheer luck due to meeting the right people to help me make the transition.
One point that should be made is that there's no need to exclude the search to retired personnel: also look for the people leaving after their first or second tour.
