LaPatagonia Offshore Buys Deepwater Drillship

LaPatagonia Offshore has acquired the Peregrine I (DW drillship) for US $5 million through a court-ordered auction after the previous owner, Peregrine I, filed for bankruptcy in a US Court earlier this year. The new owners plan to upgrade the unit, which currently located at Aratu Shipyard in Brazil. Upgrades will include new thrusters, 50-ton Seatrax crane, Converteam dynamic positioning, power management, and SCR systems. The unit completed a five year special survey in 2010. Petrobras has cancelled the rig's previous six-year contract. The new owners plan to market the rig for work in Brazil as well as worldwide. The Pelican-class drillship entered service in 1982 and is rated to work in water depths up to 5,200 feet with a rated drilling depth of 25,000 feet.
