Lundin Petroleum has commenced appraisal drilling on well 16/2-7 on the Avaldsnes discovery located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
The planned total depth of the well is 7,464 feet (2,275 meters) and the Bredford Dolphin semisub will drill the well. Drilling operations should take about 55 days. The objective of the well is to assess the Avaldsnes discovery following the 16/2-6 discovery well in 2010 and the recent successful appraisal well 16/3-4 with sidetrack 16/3-4A.
Lundin serves as operator of Production License 501 with a 40% interest. Partners on the license include Statoil with 40%, and Maersk Oil with 20%.
