Statoil has commenced appraisal drilling on well 16/2-8 in the Aldous Major South structure, located in license PL 265, in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
The operator believes the Aldous Major South structure is a western continuation extension of the Avaldsnes discovery in PL 265. The well is primarily targeting sandstone of Upper and Middle Jurassic age with secondary targets being the Cretaceous Shetland Group chalk and the Triassic Skagerrak formation. The Transocean Leader semisub is drilling the well with duration of about 45 days. The well has a planned total depth of about 6,841 feet (2,085 meters).
Statoil operates License PL 265 with a 40% interest; Petoro holds 30%; Det norske holds 20%; and Lundin holds 10%.
